Initial situation

Manufacturing at Bühler Heidenreichstein MKE GmbH is characterised by complex workflows, high variant diversity and demanding manufacturing conditions in metalworking and toolmaking. With around 220 employees, precision parts, assemblies and automotive components are produced. In this environment, there is a growing need for continuous real-time data from production to assess states, progress and deviations quickly and reliably. The ERP system Sage Farmac covers the commercial core processes; a complementary solution for work preparation, fine planning and shop-floor data collection was required.

Challenge

Without sufficient transparency over production and machine data, it becomes considerably more difficult to monitor manufacturing processes reliably, detect faults early and make well-founded decisions for fine planning and production control. In a complex production environment with diverse customer projects and different lot sizes, this required a continuous digital connection between work preparation, planning and shop-floor feedback. Manual data entry was error-prone, time-delayed and made reliable capacity planning as well as the analysis of process deviations difficult.

Solution

S4P provided solutions for work preparation, fine planning and structured capture of production data to improve transparency across manufacturing processes. This creates a reliable data basis for production control, the analysis of process deviations and continuous shop-floor improvement. Modules in use: 4AVO for work preparation and structuring of manufacturing orders; 4APS for advanced fine planning with bottleneck detection and a graphical scheduling board; 4BDE for shop-floor data collection for order, quantity and time feedback. All modules are connected to the ERP system Sage Farmac and support planning, control and feedback of relevant production data within a continuous digital environment.

Results and benefits

Greater availability and usability of production data enable processes to be planned, controlled and evaluated with higher transparency. This supports faster responses to deviations, improves the data basis for fine planning and creates an important foundation for more efficient workflows, greater process reliability and data-driven production improvement at the Heidenreichstein site.
