Initial situation
Manufacturing at GDS Präzisionszerspanungs GmbH is characterised by highly precise processes and demanding quality requirements in the production of clamping technology and grinding wheel adapters. The ERP system Sage 100 covers commercial and order-related processes. A capable fine planning solution was needed to enable realistic planning and on-schedule utilisation of the production facility.
Challenge
Fluctuating order volumes, short-notice changes and the need to optimally utilise limited machine capacities placed high demands on production planning for high-precision clamping technology and grinding wheel adapters. Without continuous, graphical fine planning, bottlenecks and scheduling conflicts were difficult to identify and manage at an early stage. Sage 100 provided commercial data; a dedicated, capable APS solution was required to enable realistic deadline planning and capacity control.
Solution
To optimise production planning, GDS Präzisionszerspanungs GmbH relies on solutions from S4P. Through integration with the ERP system Sage 100, order and production data are used end-to-end to enable realistic and transparent fine planning. The module deployed is 4APS – Advanced Planning and Scheduling for graphical fine planning and capacity control. Order and master data from Sage 100 are automatically transferred to the scheduling board; planners can adjust sequences, identify bottlenecks and reliably manage delivery dates. The solution provides a current overview of open orders, machine utilisation and scheduling status at all times.
Results and benefits
With the fine planning solution from S4P, GDS Präzisionszerspanungs GmbH achieves higher planning reliability and transparency in manufacturing. Bottlenecks are identified early, capacities are better utilised and deadlines are met more reliably – resulting in improved on-time delivery and efficiency. Planning-reliable order confirmations to customers become possible, planning effort is reduced and a solid basis for lead-time and machine utilisation analysis in precision machining is established.
