Initial situation
Manufacturing at Goldammer Wasserfuhr Stahl GmbH, with around 65 employees, is characterised by variant-rich processes and demanding quality requirements in metalworking and steel trading. Cut-to-length pieces, saw cuts, flame-cut parts and processing services are produced in customer-specific order manufacturing. With the ERP system Sage 100 as the central data source, planning and shop-floor data collection were to be more closely integrated and transparency in production increased. Fluctuating order volumes and tight delivery deadlines required capable digital fine planning and reliable shop-floor feedback.
Challenge
In steel trading and processing, variant-rich orders, fluctuating workloads and tight scheduling windows coincide. Without end-to-end fine planning and shop-floor data collection, capacity bottlenecks and scheduling risks were only identifiable with significant manual effort. The goal was to map order and production data in real time, to automate feedback from production to the ERP system Sage 100 and to create a reliable basis for planning-secure order confirmations to customers.
Solution
To optimise its manufacturing processes, Goldammer Wasserfuhr Stahl GmbH relies on S4P solutions. Through integration with the ERP system Sage 100, order, production and operating data are used end-to-end to enable realistic and transparent fine planning as well as reliable shop-floor data collection. Modules in use: 4APS — Advanced Planning and Scheduling for graphical fine planning and capacity management, and 4BDE — shop-floor data collection for transparent and current production control. All modules are bidirectionally connected to Sage 100.
Results and benefits
With the S4P solutions, Goldammer Wasserfuhr Stahl GmbH achieved higher planning reliability and transparency in production. Bottlenecks are detected early, capacities are better utilised and deadlines are met more reliably — delivering greater on-time delivery performance and efficiency. Planning-reliable order confirmations to customers are possible, manual feedback effort has been reduced and a solid data basis for evaluations and process improvements in metalworking and steel trading has been established.
