Initial situation
Manufacturing at Harburg Freudenberger Belišće d.o.o., with around 650 employees, is characterised by complex processes and demanding quality requirements in mechanical and plant engineering for the rubber and tyre industry. Rubber extruders, mixers, presses and tyre machinery are produced in elaborate manufacturing processes. With the ERP system SAP ERP as the central data source, production and shop-floor data collection were to be more closely integrated and transparency in manufacturing increased. Manual feedback routes between the shop floor and ERP led to information delays and made a reliable evaluation of manufacturing progress and capacities difficult.
Challenge
In mechanical and plant engineering for the rubber and tyre industry, complex manufacturing orders with high quality standards must be controlled and documented reliably. Manual data records did not provide a timely view of manufacturing progress and made well-founded decision-making on the shop floor difficult. The goal was to capture operating data directly at workstations, increase transparency over order status and capacity utilisation and create a reliable data basis for production control in conjunction with SAP ERP.
Solution
To optimise its manufacturing processes, Harburg Freudenberger Belišće d.o.o. relies on the solutions from S4P. Through integration with the ERP system SAP ERP, order, production and operating data are used end-to-end to enable reliable shop-floor data collection and transparent production control. Module in use: 4BDE — shop-floor data collection for transparent and current production control. Operators report order times, good and scrap quantities and fault reasons directly at the shop-floor terminal; data is exchanged bidirectionally with SAP ERP. Shift supervisors and manufacturing management receive a real-time overview of order progress and capacity utilisation.
Results and benefits
With the S4P solutions, Harburg Freudenberger Belišće d.o.o. achieved greater transparency in manufacturing. Production data is captured in real time, processes are better understood and deadlines are met more reliably — delivering higher on-time delivery performance and efficiency. Manual records have been largely replaced, data quality in SAP ERP has improved and a solid foundation for evaluations and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes in mechanical and plant engineering has been established.
