Initial situation

Pauli + Sohn GmbH, with around 150 employees, required optimised fine planning and transparent shop-floor data collection in its manufacturing of fastener technology for glazing applications. The goal was end-to-end and traceable production control based on the existing ERP system SAP ERP. Glass fittings, railing systems and shower fittings are produced in high variant diversity, requiring precise coordination of machining, assembly and inspection processes.

Challenge

As a manufacturer of fastener technology with high variant diversity, the company required reliable planning and feedback from manufacturing. Manual processes were time-consuming and did not deliver timely data on current production status. Bottlenecks and capacity utilisation were difficult to anticipate without graphical fine planning. The integration of both solutions into SAP ERP had to be seamless to avoid duplicate data entry and ensure a consistent data basis.

Solution

With fine planning solution 4APS and shop-floor data collection 4BDE from S4P, Pauli + Sohn GmbH controls its manufacturing end-to-end. Both solutions are connected to the existing ERP system SAP ERP. The graphical scheduling board of 4APS gives dispatchers a current overview of capacities, dates and open orders at all times. 4BDE captures order times, good and scrap quantities directly at the shop-floor terminal and returns the data automatically to SAP. Shift supervisors and manufacturing management receive reliable real-time insight into production status.

Results and benefits

Manufacturing now has a transparent and current data basis. Fine planning and order status are traceable at any time, planning quality has improved and manual effort was significantly reduced. Capacities are optimally utilised, bottlenecks identified early and delivery dates met more reliably. The foundation for planning-reliable order confirmations and data-driven improvement of glass fitting manufacturing has been established.
