Initial situation

Rollstar AG, with around 80 employees, required capable production planning to manage its manufacturing of drive components transparently and on schedule. The existing ams.erp environment was to be supplemented with real-time fine planning capability. Planetary gearboxes, hydraulic motors and compact drives are produced in variant-rich order manufacturing, requiring precise capacity and schedule planning to reliably fulfil delivery commitments.

Challenge

The manufacture of variant-rich drive components demands high planning accuracy. The goal was to optimise capacity utilisation, shorten lead times and sustainably improve on-time delivery to customers. Without graphical fine planning, bottlenecks and conflicts in machine utilisation were difficult to identify early. Short-notice order changes and rush orders could not be incorporated into planning quickly enough, leading to unnecessary setup and waiting times.

Solution

The solution deployed is ams.leitstand powered by 4APS for digital production planning in real time, supplied as an OEM solution by ams, the market leader for make-to-order manufacturers, from Achim. The solution integrates seamlessly into the existing ams.erp environment and delivers a transparent view of all manufacturing processes. The graphical scheduling board displays all orders, capacities and deadlines in a single view; planners can adjust sequences via drag-and-drop and immediately assess the impact on delivery dates. Loading, capacity management and schedule feedback are handled end-to-end in one interface.
