Initial situation
UTS Maschinenbau GmbH & Co. KG, with around 40 employees, required end-to-end production planning and shop-floor data collection to control its project-based manufacturing of special-purpose machines and automation solutions transparently and on schedule. The existing ams.erp environment was to be supplemented with real-time fine planning and data collection capability. In special-purpose machine manufacturing with small lot sizes and customer-specific projects, a precise capacity overview is decisive for meeting delivery dates reliably and deploying resources optimally.
Challenge
The manufacture of special-purpose machines and automation solutions demands high planning accuracy and gap-free transparency. The goal was to utilise capacities optimally, capture manufacturing progress in real time and sustainably improve on-time delivery to customers. Without graphical fine planning and digital shop-floor data collection, bottlenecks and scheduling risks were only identifiable with significant manual effort. The solution had to integrate seamlessly into ams.erp without requiring extensive modifications to the ERP core installation.
Solution
The solution deployed is ams.leitstand powered by 4APS for digital production planning in real time and 4BDE for end-to-end shop-floor data collection. The ams.leitstand provides a graphical scheduling board with drag-and-drop functionality and enables resource-optimised sequence planning for all manufacturing orders. 4BDE captures order feedback, times and quantities directly at the terminal on the shop floor. Both solutions integrate seamlessly into the existing ams.erp environment so that order and master data are exchanged bidirectionally.
Results and benefits
With the S4P solutions, UTS Maschinenbau GmbH & Co. KG achieves improved capacity utilisation, gap-free capture of production data and higher on-time delivery in special-purpose machine manufacturing. Planning-reliable order confirmations to customers become possible, bottlenecks are detected early and manual data-entry effort is significantly reduced. The end-to-end data basis from planning and feedback creates transparency for manufacturing management and scheduling.
